Service Description

The Open Water Instructor Development Course (IDC) is designed for experienced scuba divers who want to become scuba instructors. The course consists of classroom sessions, pool sessions, and open water training dives. The IDC is typically a 10-14 day program, depending on the training agency. During the IDC, candidates will learn how to teach and evaluate scuba students in a classroom setting and during open water dives. They will focus on developing the necessary skills to be able to conduct scuba diving courses, from Discover Scuba Diving to Open Water Diver. Candidates will also develop their own teaching style and learn how to adapt it to different students. The IDC is taught by Instructor Trainers who are certified to train instructors. They will provide guidance and counseling to the candidates throughout the course. At the end of the IDC, candidates will complete an Instructor Examination (IE), which is a two-day assessment that evaluates their teaching ability, dive skills, and dive knowledge. Upon successful completion of the IDC and IE, candidates will become certified Open Water Scuba Instructors (OWSI) and will be able to teach scuba diving courses in their own right. The IDC is a challenging and rewarding course, providing an opportunity for scuba divers to share their passion for the underwater environment with others.
